San Diego Mesa Invitational
On Friday, October 1st, The Santiago Canyon College Cross Country Teams competed against a field of 21 community college and university programs at the San Diego Mesa Invitational held at NTC Park in San Diego.
The SCC men's cross country team placed 12th overall as they earned victories against community college rivals Chaffey, Golden West, Norco, Long Beach City, San Diego City, Imperial Valley, College of the Desert, and San Diego Southwestern as well as San Diego Christian University. The Running Hawks were led by freshman Joshua Maguire who place 96th within the field of 196 competitors and recorded a time of 23 minutes and 15 seconds for the 4-mile men's course. Nathan Fisher (109th place, 23:32), Jesus Retiguin (110th place, 23:33), Nick Villalobos (139thplace, 24:38), Mason French (143rd place, 24:48), and Brandon Dominguez (159th place, 25:52) rounded out the scoring unit for the Running Hawks.
The Lady Hawks were represented in the competition by a freshmen duo of individual competitors. Kassie Machado led the way for the Lady Hawks as she placed 31st overall within the field of 98 runners and recorded a time of 21 minutes 43 seconds for the 5,000 meter women's course. Annelise Castillo placed 94th overall with a finish time of 27 minutes 47 seconds.
The Hawks cross country program will next compete on Friday, October 8th, at the Vanguard Invitational.
