Vanguard Invitational
On Friday, October 8th, The Santiago Canyon College Cross Country Teams competed against a field of 14 community college and university programs at the Vanguard Invitational held at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley.
The SCC men's cross country team placed 7th overall as they earned victories against community college rivals Los Angeles Mission and Compton as well as the university programs from Hope International, Marymount California, and San Diego Christian. The Running Hawks were led by freshman Nathan Fisher who place 61st within the field of 104 competitors and recorded a time of 27 minutes and 56 seconds for the 5-mile men's course. Joshua Maguire (68th place, 28:07), Jesus Retiguin (69th place, 28:08), Nick Villalobos (78th place, 28:40), Brandon Dominguez (92nd place, 30:02), Mason French (94th place, 30:20), and Joshua Aguilera (96th place, 30:57) rounded out the scoring unit for the Running Hawks.
The Lady Hawks were represented in the competition by freshman Kassie Machado who placed 42ndoverall within the field of 74 runners and recorded a Lifetime Personal Best time of 21 minutes 20 seconds for the 5,000 meter women's course.
The Hawks cross country program will next compete on Friday, October 15th, at the Mt. SAC Invitational in Walnut.
